Privacy Policy

Last updated: 8 November 2026

The Art of Staying In is an independent interiors and lifestyle journal at theartofstayingin.com. The Art of Staying In is responsible for the personal information described here. This policy explains how personal information is used when you visit the website or contact us. For privacy enquiries, email thegatherednote@gmail.com.

When you contact us

When you complete our contact form, we receive your name, email address and message. We use these details to respond to your enquiry and manage any related correspondence. Please avoid sending sensitive personal information that is not needed for your enquiry.

Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in communicating with readers and managing the journal. If your enquiry concerns a potential agreement, we may also use the information to take steps at your request before entering that agreement. Contacting us does not subscribe you to marketing emails.

Website hosting and security

Our website is built and hosted with Hostinger. Technical information, such as your IP address, browser type, requested pages and access times, may be processed to deliver the website, maintain its reliability and investigate misuse. We rely on our legitimate interests in operating a secure, functioning website for these purposes.

Analytics and cookies

We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people find and use the journal, including which articles are read. Analytics information may include page views, interactions, referral sources, device and browser information, approximate location and online identifiers. We do not intentionally send your contact messages, name or email address to Google Analytics.

Our cookie banner lets you accept, reject or manage optional cookies. Essential cookies or similar storage support website functions and record your privacy choices. Optional analytics cookies require your consent. You can read the journal without accepting them.

Google Analytics uses first-party cookies to distinguish visitors and maintain session information. Their standard expiry is two years, although browser restrictions and configuration may shorten this, and expiry can refresh when you return. Cookie expiry is separate from the retention of information in analytics reports.

You can withdraw consent by changing your cookie preferences where available, or by clearing this website’s cookies and stored site data in your browser and making a new choice when the banner reappears. Clearing cookies does not itself delete information already collected. Withdrawing consent does not affect processing that took place lawfully before withdrawal. You can also contact us for help or use Google’s Analytics opt-out browser add-on.

Who processes information

Hostinger provides website hosting and form services, Google provides analytics, and our email provider processes correspondence when we reply. We share information with service providers as needed for these purposes. We do not sell your personal information. We may also disclose information where necessary to meet legal obligations or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.

Providers may process information outside your country, including outside the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom. Depending on the provider and transfer, safeguards may include an adequacy decision or approved contractual clauses. Contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your data. You can read Hostinger’s privacy policy and Google’s privacy policy for details about their services.

How long information is kept

We retain correspondence only for as long as needed to answer your enquiry, manage any ongoing relationship, or meet legal obligations and resolve disputes. The retention period depends on the nature of the enquiry and whether further correspondence is needed. Information that is no longer necessary should be deleted.

Technical records are subject to the relevant provider’s retention arrangements. Analytics information is retained according to the settings and retention rules of our Google Analytics property; aggregate reports may be retained separately from information about individual visits. You can contact us for details or to request deletion of personal information where applicable.

Your rights

Depending on applicable law and the circumstances, you may ask to access, correct or delete your personal information, restrict its use, object to processing based on legitimate interests, or receive certain information in a portable format. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it at any time. These rights have conditions and exceptions.

To make a request, email thegatherednote@gmail.com. We may need proportionate information to verify your identity. We normally respond within one month; if a permitted extension is needed, we will explain why.

You may complain to your local data protection authority. In Estonia, this is the Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate. In the UK, you can contact the Information Commissioner’s Office.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy when the website or our use of information changes. The date above shows the latest revision. If we introduce a newsletter, product sales or other services, we will update the relevant privacy information before collecting information for those purposes.
