Spatial Practice

Rooms grounded in architectural provenance

We calibrate residential interiors through natural daylight, unlacquered metals, and structural stone, allowing historic volumes to breathe without decorative artifice.

The Practice

Julian Vance, Principal

Trained in architectural conservation in Edinburgh and classical draughtsmanship in Rome, Julian Vance established the studio to bridge structural rehabilitation and quiet interior curation.

Our studio accepts a limited roster of residential commissions annually. Each home develops through prolonged material studies, ensuring hand-applied lime plaster and salvaged stonework age with grace over decades.

Final Spatial Styling

We survey structural bones, existing sightlines, and solar orientation to anchor every spatial decision in classical proportion.

Direct provenance inquiries across European stone yards, local timber mills, and textile ateliers yield honest, enduring raw matter.

Master joiners and plasterers execute custom cabinetry, stone thresholds, and concealed mechanical details under continuous studio oversight.

The installation concludes with collected eighteenth-century antiques, bespoke lighting, and deliberate negative space that allows rooms to settle.

Commission an Architectural Interior

The studio consults on select private residences, country estates, and historical restorations across North America and Europe.
